Showcasing Internorm KF405 Window

INTERNORM KF 405 Window

THE INTERNORM KF 405 WINDOW -UPVC OR UPVC/ALUMINUM WINDOW

The Internorm KF 405 window can be of all UPVC in classic white or a combination of UPVC/Aluminum. It has a captivating and a consistent design and comes with a straight, square-edged, narrow window frame. This consequently reflects the minimalistic architectural design of the window. The frame is  flush-mounted both inside and outside — in weather-resistant aluminum on the outside, and low-maintenance UPVC on the inside.

The Technical details:

The window looks almost frameless and modern due to the three sided rendering of the frame . It is also characterized by i-tec glazing with all around bonding of the glass pane. This ensures excellent stability, thermal insulation and security with the locking system being concealed. The thermal insulation and the sound proofing of this window depend upon what the frame is made up of and upon the type of glazing. Inside, it has 2 gaskets in sash profile (stopper gasket and centre gasket) which help with airtightness and thermal insulation. Frame connections are created through butt welding.

The window frame covers the the opening sash from the outside. Hence, this glass sash makes it look like there is no difference in the outside view between fixed and opening parts.

Protection Systems

Of course, as the other Internorm windows, the KF 405 can also be complemented with sun and insect protection systems.

The venetian blinds give the option of optimal control and deflection of light and heat via adjustable slats. Further, the attachment roller shutter and drop-down fly screen can provide additional protection from sun or insects.

HF 410 Ambiente Passive House Certified Window Wood Aluminum Windows NeuFenster

HF 410

HF 410- ALUMINIUM TIMBER WINDOW

The HF 410 is a puristic Internorm aluminium timber window that meets the highest demands for heat protection. Thin, bonded layers of wood in the core is the technology of HF 410.

This profile is especially suitable for homes located near waterfronts, areas of high humidity and damp climates. The innovative laminated veneer lumber (LVL) core is humidity-resistant and is considerably less susceptible to expansion and contraction compared to a traditional solid wood core. Due to the high rigidity of the product attained by the LVL property, the windows can be built in larger sizes.

The angular design creates a diminished appearance — With weather-resistant aluminium on the outside, and a natural timber surface on the inside.

With new Internorm technology at its core in the form of the stable I-tec Core and an extremely weatherproof aluminium shell on the exterior, it ensures a high level of resistance and strength. The sash and the frame are insulated with foam, further improving its energy efficiency and sound reduction. I-tec Glazing ensures excellent stability, thermal insulation, and security due to the all-round bonding of the glass pane.

Stable core- I-Tec Core

The new I-tec Core features laminated veneer lumber (LVL) at the core of the window frame. This technology is typically used for stable roof beams and supports due to its high load-bearing capacity and incredible strength. Wood is a material particularly susceptible to expansion and contraction as temperatures change each season. However, I-tec Core eliminates this common issue.

“Energy Genius” award for HF 410

Internorm was awarded the “Energy Genius 2016” prize for its timber/aluminium HF 410 window.

NET-ZERO HOMES

What are Net-Zero Homes?

Net-Zero Homes are alternative green building structures which are on the rise in order to tackle the climate change emergency. These homes are strategically designed to cut down the green-house gas (GHG) emissions. In fact, these emissions are the principle polluters. From leaving the lights on unaware to blasting the thermostat non-stop to using innumerable energy consuming appliances and devices, humans have done it all and caused the harm.

We’ve heard about the fact that 40% of the GHG is from the buildings. The International Energy Agency (IEA) unfolds here in detail about how these emissions are impacting the environment. It is upon us to set this straight before the apocalypse.

Net-Zero buildings are proving to be long-term sustainable solutions to tackle the pressing climate change issue.

How do NZE homes function?

The International Living Future Institute defines Net Zero Energy (NZE) as “One hundred percent of the project’s energy needs being supplied by on-site renewable energy on a net annual basis.”

NZE homes are designed to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions and reduce the use of combustion fuels. These homes use renewable and clean energy with almost a zero consumption of fossil fuels. They also use sustainable quality products that pass the Passivehaus standards.

What are the essential elements that make a Net-Zero home?

Although Net-Zero homes aren’t just regular homes with solar panels, the strategic utilization of photovoltaic solar panels is a crucial factor that make these homes.

Other elements that could add to making up a NZE home are:

  • Thick, well insulated and air tight wall structures that cut down both heating and cooling
  • LED lighting (Light Emitting Diode) which reduces about 75%-90% of energy.
  • Thick, large, triple glazed open windows that provide better natural lighting and ventilation.
Passive Solar Net Zero Home Alberta High Performance Energy Efficient Homes Triple Glass Windows and Doors
Chelsah Thomas and her husband built their dream home using passive house principles and solar energy, to live sustainably and self-sufficiently. This is Alberta’s first “damn near” Passive Solar Net Zero Home and is one of NeuFenster’s proud projects.

Are these homes very expensive?

Usually, the cost of a NZE seems to be about 25k higher than the standard homes. This would be a small amount that will be balanced out by the negligible energy bills over the next few decades. All of this, by choosing to live harmoniously with nature without adding to the massive carbon footprint.

It is good news that the NZE homes are rising even with lot of reluctance and skepticism by the builders. According to a new report by the Net-Zero Energy Coalition, in 2016, 33 percent more net-zero units were built across the U.S. and Canada than the previous year. The 8,023 new single-family and multifamily units will eliminate the equivalent of 16,406 cars and 77,929 tons of CO2 emissions each year, versus buildings that met code compliance.

In conclusion, Net-Zero homes are energy efficient, climate-friendly and carbon-free. These are perfect dwellings and provide a safe and healthy environment inside as well as outside the homes. Rising against the tide and standing tall, but compatible with nature is the most needed sustainable approach today.

PASSIVE HOUSE WINDOWS

Comment les fenêtres de la maison passive réduisent-elles vos dépenses énergétiques?

A Passive House is thoughtfully designed to reduce energy consumption by 90% in a home. It improves the air quality, insulation, durability, and overall comfort experienced in a home. The design takes into account the functional elements within a home and it’s external environment to produce a harmonious and a self-sufficient building. The Passive House standard has also been applied to windows and doors to meet the stringent construction requirements.

Passive House Window Technology

Sun orientation, solar heat gain, airtightness, thermal bridging, heat recovery, cross ventilation and superior insulation are the fundamental principles distinguishing Passive House technology.

Isothermic European Windows and Doors Insulated Weatherproof and Most Energy Efficient Windows NeuFenster

The Passive house standard, developed in Europe, has revolutionized the construction and performance of European windows and doors. This certification requires windows to meet a ‘U value’ below 0.8 W/m²K, far outperforming the average North American triple-glazed window which can reach only 1.3 W/m²K.

U Value

The ‘U value’ is a measure of the window or door’s overall level of conductivity (frame and glazing). In other words, it is the ability to keep heat and cold out. It indicates the difference between the exterior and interior temperature of the window. If the U value is lower, the performance and insulation properties of the window is higher. For example, on a -30°C winter day, the glass temperature of a high-performance window will remain steady at 20°C, avoiding unwanted heat loss and expensive heating bills.

The use of non-conductive materials, such as UPVC and the construction of innovative chamber significantly improve the thermal efficiency of the window profile. Therefore, both warm and cool temperatures are regulated keeping the interior room temperatures stable and comfortable.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient

Glazing and sun-orientation are two key factors that allow a home to reap the benefits of natural heat sources which significantly reduce both energy consumption and heat loss.

The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) indicates the amount of heat gained and transmitted through the glass when exposed to direct solar contact.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of Windows and Doors Passive House Energy Efficient Windows NeuFenster

Increasing or reducing the SHGC for rooms that lack or allow too much natural sunlight into the home can have a significant impact on energy efficiency. During winter, an increased SHGC allows more heat to be transmitted into the home. It is a cost-effective and convenient means of stabilizing indoor temperatures. The orientation of the sun is an important consideration in Passive House and Net Zero home design. This greatly affects the distribution of heat and energy consumption.

These amazing benefits of passive house windows result in negligible energy bills. They also reduce the ecological footprint of the buildings. If we want to strike a balance between urban development and climate change, this is definitely the way to go.

Différences entre PVC et UPVC

FENÊTRES PVC VS. UPVC

What is the difference between PVC and UPVC windows NeuFenster

A peek into the performance of European windows and North-American windows

Windows are indispensable components of homes and buildings. Every homeowner or a builder will invest time, energy and money in buying good quality windows and doors for their properties.

In the windows and doors market, there are two main types of windows that have been prominent. They are the North American Windows and the European windows.
Climate, energy costs and energy policies have influenced the two continents to manufacture windows and doors differently. These impact the long-term performance of the windows.

Points of comparison between the European windows and North American windows:

Efficacité énergétique

The European windows have been tested for higher standards in energy conservation and product quality. They have stood the test of time and proved to be more efficient. They are eco-friendly as they strictly adhere to the Passivhaus standards and hence, reduce the building’s ecological footprint.
The high energy costs in Europe has prompted the designers and technicians to use maximum natural resources of sun and air. European windows can be regulated to allow maximum circulation of air between the exterior and the interior of a home. The warm air is allowed to escape out and the cool air is allowed to enter in through various features.
The North American windows come with limited options for tapping the energy for self-sufficiency. The other major factor in prompting little innovation in sustainable mechanisms of the windows is cheaper energy costs.

Thermal efficiency

More number of glass panes used, better the insulating property. European windows are better resistant to condensation which reduces the energy consumption especially, in colder climates.
While most North American windows use double pane windows, European windows either have triple panes or even quadruple panes along with integrated blinds.
Although recently, the North American windows have been using triple panes, they have smaller spaces between them compared to the European ones. Hence, they are less resilient to the outer climate.

The use of non-conductive materials in the European windows – FENETRES UPVC, Low-E glass and a low U-value improve the thermal efficiency of the window panes. UPVC windows reduce the infrared and UV rays that penetrate through the glass, without minimizing the amount of light that enters the house. This keeps the heat out in summer and prevents the indoor heat from escaping during winter. This  reduces the energy loss by 30-50%. On the other hand, North American windows mostly use PVC and non-Low-E glass which are conductors of heat.

Design

The European windows and doors come in a variety of styles. They are large and fill huge open spaces. They are tilt and turn windows in minimalistic, modern or classic style.
On the other hand, the North American windows are more of a traditional design- double-hung colonial style commonly manufactured from float glass.

Cost

This is the most important factor that decisions are based upon. Although the initial purchase and installment cost of European windows seem greater, the energy savings and their average durability of 60-70 years outweighs the initial cheaper costs of the North American windows.

In conclusion, the above exemplary features of the European windows give them an edge over the North American windows. The European windows have no longer remained within the four walls of the European homes. Instead, they have been making their way into the North American walls as well as into the homes of the other parts of the world due to their high performance and sustainable approach. These are real windows of opportunities for us to make responsible and sustainable choices in protecting our planet.
