LVL Versus Solid Wood

What Is Lvl?

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL), is an engineered wood product comprised of multiple layers of thin wood assembled together and manufactured in a controlled environment.

It is a practice of using pieces of wood to construct larger pieces by alternating the wood’s direction, then bonding the pieces together. This creates a stronger and stiffer product. It also means there is far more consistency in quality because it must meet strict standards every time.

Laminated veneer lumber has been proven to show incredible strength and stability against wind and heavy loads. It can be up to an astonishing two and a half times stronger than standard framing lumber of equivalent comparison, and therefore withstanding 100 mph or more.

Window Framing

The innovative laminated veneer lumber (LVL) core is humidity-resistant and is considerably less susceptible to expansion and contraction compared to a traditional solid wood core, where it is highly affected by temperature changes each season.

This is what makes LVL window frames particularly suitable for homes located near waterfronts, areas of high humidity and damp climates.

Due to the high rigidity of the product attained by the LVL property, the windows can be built in larger sizes. This technology is typically used for stable roof beams and supports due to its high load-bearing capacity and incredible strength.
